Happy Earth Day!

Today is Earth Day, the day we celebrate how lucky we are to be on this one beautiful, hospitable planet.

I can find nothing positive to say. There are so many "open-minded" people who care nothing about the environment, the nonhuman animal life on the planet, or the future. They get out of any responsibility by saying that scientist's claims are lies or "Oh, it's not that bad." Fine.

To all of the open-minded people out there: those kids you claim to love so much? We're going to leave them an unspeakable future. Look around you right now-things aren't exactly lovely. With the way we're living, it's just going to get worse. And how about your grandkids and your great-grandkids? With any luck, you'll be dead before they're born, so you won't have to face their hatred as they struggle with each inhalation, pulling contaminated air into their damaged lungs. You won't have to watch them drink filthy water, or see the illnesses that result from living like that.

Happy Earth Day, indeed!

again...people are stupid. and unfortunatly, i am one of them. i drive WAY too much - because my stupid city had NO MASS TRANSIT! and has shot down the proposal several times. DUH! but i am an avid recycler and conserver. does that amount to anything?

JR-Just how I feel.

Cameo-I'm an avid recycler and conserver too. But I have read some things that state that little steps mean nothing. I like to think that's wrong! After all, when there's a bigger problem should you just pile on?

But you pointed out the bigger issue. Many (most?) cities don't have decent public transportation. And I just read that the fuel we burn for heating/cooling our homes has a bigger impact than all of our driving. So we'd better get into alternative energy soon, but people generally don't support it, and politicians won't do anything they're not forced to do. Unless we're all screaming about this, I don't see how we'll make progress.

But then, we can start screaming, can't we? And when you say conserver-if that means limiting the electricity you use, even "little" things like turning off the lights when you leave the room, or not turning the thermostat up to 75 in the winter could be making a huge difference.
